Zika virus: transmission and complications

Zika virus is transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, and currently it’s a health problem in Latin America. The most serious complications involve pregnant women because the infection can lead to malformations or microcephaly in unborn children. In adults, occasionally, it can result in neurological problems such as “Guillain-Barre Syndrome”.

Eliminating the mosquitos seems to be the most effective solution: Many countries in Latin America have implemented a disease control policy to curb the spread of the virus.
