Autophagy is the mechanism with which cells “recycle” themself. Yoshinori Ohsumi won the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine for his discoveries in this field. His story is a symbol of passion for research as well, despite possible failures and difficulties. In conclusion of his message for the 2012 Kyoto Prize he said “I hope to see some kind of system in our society that supports those who have failed, because not everyone can succeed in their challenges. Young people today seem to believe that even a single failure will not be tolerated.”
